Default 05 cr125r use 97 outer fork tube?

I have recently upgraded from a play bike to a 05 Honda CR125R. The bike has a dent on an outer tube right on the dust cover or dust seal. It constricts movement and has a slight leak causing me to view it as a ticking time bomb. So the question is can I use an outer tube from older bikes to replace mine?

I checked the part number on Honda's OEM they were the same for a 97 and 05 year. Both tubes are 46mm I am low on money and don't want to assume anything and be out money. Could I simply replace the outer tube on my 05 with that of a bike 8 years older? I wouldn't think the suspension would stay the same that long. Maybe the tube stayed the same and the components inside changed over time?
