Default 02 cr250 gearing ?'s

I bought it with a 13 x 49. It's too low . I was thinking 13 x 46.
Has anyone tried this ? I ride mostly open trails and some track.
Thanks,JIM

I switched mine to the next lowest possible gearing than stock at 14/52 and am very happy with the results. It pulls longer and stronger in each gear.

Wow, 13/49 too low? I'm still running stock 13/48 and it's a little high for my liking, I'll be switching to 13/49 in a week or so. A cheaper way to experiment would be to add a tooth to the front and see how you like it (it's close to your 13/46 combo).

A simple way to compare gearing ratios is:

Rear / Front = Final

or

48/13 = 3.69
49/13 = 3.77
49/14 = 3.5
46/13 = 3.54
52/14 = 3.71
. . . etc . . .

Roostman, your actually geared a tad lower than stock! Must be that strong, dialed topend that keeps revving.

Faded, I wanted just a little more punch out of the corners but didnt want to sacrifice top end so I decided to run the 14/52. With the 14 on the front, the motor doesnt spool up as fast as with a smaller sprocket therefore letting it effectively pull longer. Whatever the case, Im really happy with the way the bike runs with this combo.

Roostman,

I see what you're saying. Just a little well placed mass can make the difference. I've been to consumed to experiment with mine, but given my small frame I think I'm going to need a flywheel weight to help me smooth my cornering ability. In the open stuff it's just fine the way it is, but when I go to the track (which is becoming a habit!) I really get tore up trying to hang on. When I go with my buddies I'm first to the corner, dang near last out, but first again to the next corner.

MCP- A 14/51 (3.64) would be the next logical step, as that is one ratio taller than stocks 13/48 (3.69) and mine being 14/52 (3.71) is just a touch lower than stock. I really dont miss any top end unless I have a long wide open stretch in which case I would want much taller gearing, but overall Im very happy with the 14/52.

MCP - those gears you specified would make it way too tall IMO- the bike would be really slow off the bottom and burn clutches like good crazy, but the top speed would be sweet! (I know you already posted some of these Faded but this is a more complete listing of gears and ratios to see a comparison with)

13/50=3.85
14/53=3.79 - youd have to modify the chain guide for a 53 or bigger as the 52 barely works without modification
13/49= 3.77
14/52= 3.71
13/48= 3.69- stock
14/51= 3.64
13/47=3.62
14/50= 3.57
13/46= 3.54
14/49= 3.50
13/45= 3.46
14/48= 3.43
