Default 01 cr 125 rebuild questions.plz help

Hello every one I am new to this forum and new to wrenching on bike.my 01 cr 125 r has engine issues.it runs and starts every time but there is no power band on the top end. I pulled everything apart but the motor. The carb was brand new cleaned the air filter and cleaned the power valve.the piston was smoth looking but it is a little brown on the bottom side of the rings on the exhaust side. Reeds looked fine wasn't a huge gap on them but what do I no.so I was thinking about just having me and my buddies rebuild it.so was wondering if there was a difference in a top end kit or a top end rebuild kit and if there is anything else I should try be for tearing it apart.i no this might be a common post but every ones problems are different plz help me and I apreciate the input.

The 01 CR125 in stock trim is notorious for having no low, a lousy mid and an even lousier Top end. How did the bike run before the rebuild?

If the bottom of the piston is brown, that means you are too lean. The piston gets too hot and the charge that's in the crankcase burns a little brown spot on the underside of the piston. If you're too lean, you're not going to get good power.
Edit: Those motors are notorious for having very little low end power, but mid and top are so-so.
