Default '00 CR250 Reviews

I'm thinking about purchasing a 2000 CR250. Does anyone know if it was a good bike? How were the reviews on it? I heard it had a great motor. Can anyone give me some input? Thanks.

I have a 2001, which is pretty much the same bike and I love it. I am a C level rider at the best, and I really enjoy it. I don't think you can go wrong with it, the engine is considered one of the best ever put in the CR and the chassis is much improved over the 99 model.

The only bike I can compare it to is a 2000 YZ426, which is what I traded for the CR. The suspension was the biggest difference, the CR smokes the YZ in that area. Its just a much more fun bike to ride than the Yamaha.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bike to anyone.

Good Luck!
Joe

Default Not sure but, I will say

I owned Mark Burkhardts 98 125 CR and loved it and just got a almost brand new 97 CR-250 (ridden 8 times since new) and love it even more.
I for one dont mind the more rigid feel of the first geneneration frames.
If its anything like the 97-99 you are going to love it IMHO.
The 2001 is the 2nd genration frame (little more flex) other then that not much changed overall.
2002 and on even more flex etc. etc.
You really cant loose with the CR quality build and finish they are top notch.
Its like splitting hairs some love the more rigid some dont etc.

They were known to have good motors in that year, even better than the newer generation CR's. Of course, the 00-01 frames are not as good as the new ones, but they are much better than the first generation frames. They are good bikes though!

In 2000 Honda changed the frame slightly and lengthened the swingarm. The motor in my opinion is one of the best Honda ever made. It had all the right things. They took a step back in 01' when they changed the carb to the Mikuni IMO. If the price is right buy it. You will love it.

I have a 2001 cr and I love it! This is my first 2 stroke as I'm a late bloomer to riding (about 3 years in riding). Its got tons of bottom end but the suspension seemed a little unbalanced to me. good luck with your decision.

what carb did they use on the 2000?

Thanks for all the tips guys. The research I've done and your comments seem to be right on. I've been out of riding for many years so I'll be starting over. I'm just looking for a quality ride and decent price just to start. I last owned a 92 rm125. That bike was killer back in the day. I've been thinking also about a 99 kx250. They are supposed to be strong bikes too.

The 2000 had a Keihin PWK Air Stryker carb.

I've got a 2000 and a 2002 and if I'd never rode the 2002, I'd love the 2000 to death. But I have to admit, I prefer the feel of the 2002 a bit over the 2000. With that said, the 2000 has the better engine, as Faded mentioned. My solution was a Mo Betta port job from Eric Gorr on the 2002 and a CR500 engine for the 2000.

My 2000 CR250 had way better suspension and motor than my KX250 2003. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

All the late-model Hondas have been known for excellent suspension from the factory. I can't really comment on that front since my 2000 has Race Tech Gold Valves in both ends while the 2002 is stock. The 2002 has better stock components, but I think the Gold Valves even things up a bit.

But most importantly, that aluminum frame looks sweet!

Speaking of the 2001 and 2000 cr 250's, does anyone know if the motors are identical between these two years or are there slight cylinder changes? I know the carbs are different but I'm wondering since I have a PWK on my 2001, if it is now essentially a 2000.

I think there were porting changes as well.

In fact, I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANY concurrent model year motocrosser that are identical. They always change something on them. It may be minor, but it's still a change. Only the streetbikes get the "BNG" treatment (BNG = Bold New Graphics) and call it a change.

I need to go to the library and try to get back issues to read for free.

From what i have been able to research, i dont think I can go wrong with any newer CR. I just want to be able to buy the best bike for my needs within my budget.
