Default YZM500....Works Bikes Were Cool

I am another one who agrees the "production rule" should go away. Yeah the privateer will be at a disadvantage...but heck they are now anyway...so who are we kidding.

BUT....from someone who loves "bling" the old days of true works bikes were glorious. They were a thing a beauty. This bike here is a great example....

My bad. Before I bought m 00 YZ I was looking for a cheaper alternative. One that popped up was a 92 YZ and it look very similiar to that one. Shows how they were using factory racing technology years after the teams were using it.

YZM 500!

Great looking bike, but turned out to be real turds

Too much power all in the wrong places & the frame didn't work right, but it did teach Yamaha a thing or two about where the powerband should be put for maxium use.

Unlike most others, I LOVED the white/red/black Yamaha's. I couldn't wait to get my 85 YZ 250. One local guy drove to Canada and picked up white YZ's in 84 and I just wanted one so bad. My favorite was my 87....but I wanted my 85 motor in it.

I still like the white. I should make mine white again I don't know why so many people disliked the white?? You could keep the white plastic real clean with a little Soft Scrub and there was never any "white crash lines or blotches" in it.

Shocknut,
I'm with ya' on the wihite, red and black International Yamahas. You need to have seen Kirtwell's 426. I have thought about doing that to my 426 too. Even though the YZM had its bad points it looked so bad

Yep I had one just like that....only without the M500 designation. My 88 YZ 250 had tons of power I can still remember literally sitting on the gas tank and hitting 3rd gear just to have the front end climb. Very fond memories of that bike.

This is my favorite, 1971 Yamaha YZ250 reed valve Torsten Hallman Factory bike. To make all the parts one off, many man hours of machining.

I had a 89 that looked like that. It was most likely the uncontrollable bike I every own. It rode like a ten speed bicycle with unreal power. It was a good day when I sold it for a XR250
