Default YZ250 running rough?

I have a 1990 YZ250 and when I am running it in all gears before I hit the power band it sounds like it is "loading up". It runs great in the power band it is prior to hitting that in each gear that it I am getting this. It doesn't die or cut out or anything. Any suggestions?

It seems like you need to get a smaller needle jet, if it seems like it is running fat in the mid throttle range. You might have to mess with your needle clip position also. Have you checked your spark plug to see how it looks?

Its a new plug. So I am a "learn as I go mechanic" how do you adjust the needle clip position? Sorry if it is a dumb question.

the carburetors im sure have changed from 1990 to '02 so i don't want to tell you the wrong way to do it, so i would go buy a clymer service and repair manual for your year and model of bike, they are only like $20. It is really easy, Good Luck !

I had a similar problem with an 81 Husky a couple of years ago. Turned out to be a worn needle and main jet. If it used to run right, it might be worth a shot replacing them........
