Yamaha did not make a YZ175 in 1978. They did make one in 1976. Does it look like this?

At one time Yamaha was making an MX and a YZ line. About the time those hammer head forks came along Yamaha decided to slightly upgrade their MX line and slightly downgrade their YZ line (Ok they just really started calling their MX's YZ's and basically stopped making things as special as YZ's had been. The 175 MX version got dropped when the IT 175 came about as I recall. I still have some of the 175 IT's. It was pretty close to what a YZ was in every respect except for the big tank,,,different exhaust and wide ratio transmission.

The YZ175 was a one year only model in 76. I sold one a couple of years ago and still have a few parts floating around somewhere......

"I kinda have a vinate bug, id like to restore my dads..." Post us a picture of the bike. We still don't know what you have for sure. My yz sold for $950.00 on eVil Bay. That was with a rebuilt (never started) engine, a like new tank lots of n.o.s. bits and still needing the suspension overhauled.
