Default YZ125....difference in years

As some of you might know I am getting a yz125 very soon(I was aspossed to have to already but got held up due to no trailer, ect.)...I am only gonna get 2001-2004 modle becuase i wast one thats "up to date". I saw alot of differnt year modle 125s that were in my budget(3000 $$AT most) my question is...should I get a newer modle like a 2003 or 2002 or should I just go with the 2001....What I mean by this is like what differences would a 2001 compared to a 2003 have...would a 2003 really be that much better?...I want to get one for like 2300 so i cant have some money left over to buy accesorys and maintenence things but if a 2003 is alot better i would rather go with a new modle..thanks!

.....I thought all the years had 6 speed....but if they dont why did they change the gears?...so thats the only MAJOR difference...BTW I probly im not getting the 2001 yz125 because i just called the guy that owns it and he said two people are going to see his bike tomorow.....He said his bike has been on cycle trader for a year and the one time I call 2 poeple are already seeing it!!! Dam I got bad luck...but whatever I would rather have a 2002-03 newer one with little hours on it...keep em' comin'

They switched to the 5 speed for the racing purpose of having wider gears so you wouldn't shift as much

I believe as long as you get one in fairly good condition you will be happy with it. I love my 2000 YZ125. Each year they update things and finetune jetting. THe newer the better I spose.

WHen I get my next bike (YZ250F) I will try and buy one with aftermarket stuff ie. muffler/header, adjustable clamps etc.

Good luck, they are great bikes!

basically weight savings every year, umm 04's have titanium footpegs and 48mm shocks as opposed to 46mm... in '01 or '02 they changed the body a lil bit, for better ergonomics, they are all good, best thing is if you get any YZ from 96-present they have won almost every magazine shootout for every year
