one hello from Germany, my name is christian and I have come across this forum, because in Germany less information about the yamaha YZ 490 there. I hope you can understand the text, I wrote it with google translator. my english is unfortunately not so good. I have a yamaha yz 490 from 1983rd I rebuilt it for supermoto. but I am still not quite finished. have ridden more but there is still room for significant improvement. has anyone done well here before? find it exciting with such an old bike, to annoy the young on their 4 stroke. I would like to receive views as stated simply, what's up with the cylinder head modification up. I also ask several others. fits from another bike one VForce reed? I have these views reed on a Yamaha RD 350 tried and found them very good. I have a Keihin pj38 and a new dg pipe and silencer worried. adapts the well together? The original pipe is very rusty and dented. I also think that the old should be approximately replaced by a flat slide carburetor better? can improve the ignition a bit nology with dynamic coil or cable? There is a possibility to reduce the vibration? I know it's an old motorcycle, but would like to improve this old bike on. I would be happy to answer a very few. Many greetings from Germany Last edited by XJR1315RR; 10-16-2009 at 05:04 AM.

Hi Christian,, I would touch the ignition if it is working right now. Do the head mod (included here on my pic). Vibration wise.... live with it unless you want to change the piston with a lighter one like from wiseco and send the the rotating assembly to be balanced (lots of $$$) head_mod2 - Good luck

Welcom to this web-site. You should find lots of people who can answer your questions. To help limit the vibration you feel on the handle bars, you can fill the bars with small lead shot (bb's). Fill the bars full. This will dampen the vibration a bit. Be sure to take pictures of your bike. We'd love to see it.

Hello again, I am still working on the yz. I got a new swing. Unfortunately there are on the newer bikes, the spring legs very straight in the frame. with the old yz yes they are very slanted in the frame. now wanted to convert a directly linked spring leg. like ktm. had arranged a white power pds spring leg. how to adjust photos? or I'm in too few posts about it? greeting from Germany christian
