Question yz 250 spark plug promblem???????

here is my little prob. on my 2003 yz250 2 stroke-

After riding it for a while (about 20 or more minutes) for some reason last weekend i kinda fell of my bike and dumped some gas by accident. after i turn the bike right side up... i go try and start it and for some reason it just doesn't want to start even thou i can get it to start on the 1 or 2nd kick when i take it fresh out of the garage. but after i run it a while it takes at least a 1/2 hr. to start cuase it needs to get cold again.!

just to let u know... this might have to do something w/ my lil' bro' dumping my bike in a river for about 5 minutes.

in fact i will bet $1000000000 that my lil' prob. has something to do w/ it getting completley submerged in a river!

thanks in advance
alex

If it were me, I'd change the oil on that bike. My bet is it's a nice, milky white color. You may very well need to change it several times to get all the water out of there. I'd also pull the carb and give it a good, thorough cleaning.

I haven't a clue whether or not it's related to your problem, but if you haven't done the above, you should consider it.

First, drain the gas completly out of the tank and and let it dry out. You probably got some water it there. Next, clean and reoil that air filter. Then, pull the carb and clean out. I bet you theres some moisture in that carb. Like what Char said, drain that oil and put some fresh stuff in there. If you can take a picture of that oil I would love to see it. Get yourself a can of of contact cleaner and go through all your electrical conections. Do not use this stuff near any type of spark or flame....I speak from experience......Hey they don't call me sparky for nothing . Let us know if you need any more help.

Good advice Char. Also make sure there isn't any moisture in the air filter and in the air boot that goes to the carb. I would also take the tank off drain it too. And, while the tank is off, disconnect all electrical connections and make sure they are dry and clean.

As far as if that is the problem it wont start again when warm, and starts if you let it cool down I am not sure. a bike that does not start when it is warm is usually running too rich. two strokes, when properly tuned will start best cold with the choke/enrichenor on and the throttle CLOSED. it is just the opposite when hot. you start them with the choke/enrichenor in the off position and the throttle FULL OPEN.

If yours has been submerged, it needs all the advice above adhered too.

While you are in the carburetor cleaning it, reset the floats and clean the float needle and seat.

if it still has trouble starting after that I would look at the stator, coil, and check your compression. (that later may be gone because it got dirt through the air cleaner from being started with muddy water in it.)
