| Let me say from the start, both are great bikes!! The main consideration should be given to the year of bike. From what I have learnt, from 93-97 CR's were the class-leaders on the 125cc class. But Yamaha picked up there game in 1998 and Honda introduced the alloy frame on their bikes. The alloy frame caused major intake re-shuffling and this caused the CR to loose alot of snap. The alloy frame looks trick and stands out nicely. But it was initially found to be too rigid and a bit harsh. However, most people get used to this and think it is an awesome bike. From 1998 until present, YZ125's have been strong and have one many shootouts. There is no real weakness in it. The Yamaha does everything well. Personally I would say got for 97-present YZ but look around for the best deal and go for the one that floats your boat. Good Luck!! |

| The older cr's arent better then the new ones. They were better for there time. Let me say from riding BOTH bikes, that they feel differant, but are both awesome bikes. The yz takes the cr in the engine department, but not by much. IMO, the cr has more topend then the yz, cause the yz seems to go flat. But the yz has a stronger pull from the beggining. THe cr handles turns a lot better with more confidence IMO..The cr gets so headshake at high speeds, but you can drop the forks in the clamp and the pretty much clears it up. Cr high points-great mid/top, awesome handling, suspension rocks, and is a good package all around. Honda reliability. Cr lowpoints-Bottom end. It has almost none. Headshake. Piston slap from the factory(just throw in a wiseco..) Yz highpoints-Great pull from the start(for a 125). Light and flickable. Ergo's are pretty sweet, but might seem to high for smaller riders.. Yz lowpoints-Falls flat on top. Doesnt build your confidence in turns really, ESPECIALLY flat turns. Plastics etc. aint to great. Kinda topheavy..Plastic inserts(stuffers) on the crank. But, these are just small problems, and the highpoints greatly outweigh the lowpoints. You'll be happy with either bike, since they're both awesome Max |
