Pull the cylinder off. If the bike has alot of time on it, I would put a new piston, wrist pin, and wrist pin bearing. The only way you'd know if the piston is still good is to measure it with a micrometer. What year is the YZ? If it has a plated cylinder break the glaze with a scotchbrite pad. If it has a cast iron sleeve, use a ball hone. If you don't have one or dont know how to use it then take it to the dealer. Then put the cylinder in warm soapy water. Then spray some wd-40 on some paper towel, wipe the cylinder and keep doing it until there is no black residue on the towel.

Follow what Blue said.

The main thing you gotta make sure with new ring/s is that the ring end gap is correctly placed over the small pin that porttrudes from the side of piston in the ring holder. Make sure the ring doesn't come out of position when you put cylinder back on.

Hope this helps.

Also its important that you check your ring end gap. Put the ring in the cylinder itself. Push it about a 1/2" from the top. Measure it using a feeler gauge. If I remember it should be from .012-.024.
