Default Yamaha CT2 help...

I have been working at this 72 Yamaha CT2 175 for a while, and the fresh top end runs like a top, the bottom end doesn't. I can shift through all the gears but it won't hardly pull its own butt around. It is almost like the clutch is pulled 1/4 of the way in and really slips at about 4,000 rpm. The clutch seems to be adjusted properly and feels good. Any thoughts? Sticking or worn clutch plates? Clutch adjustment?

Ok, its fixed now. For anyone that may experience this in the future, the fix was in the clutch. I removed the right-hand case cover and disassembled the clutch. The rings were stuck together... I took them out, separated, cleaned and oiled each of them and replaced them. It now rides like it should!

If it developes this problem again, take the steels and rub them hard into a cement floor in a circular motion on each side. It will make a good abrasive texture for the fibers to grab. Also check and make sure all the steels are facing the same direction, if you feel the outside edge of the steels, one side is sharp the other is rounded. Face the sharp edge out for a hard grabbing clutch, face the rounded edge out for a smooth action clutch.

Thanks for the response, I do feel some slippage after riding it for about 1/2 hour but it is better than it was. At low rpm it seems to grab ok but at higher rpm it is as though the clutch is being pulled. Do you think your suggestion might fix this?
