I have a 2003 YZ125 that I bought new three weeks ago. On the ride this past Saturday the bike only ran 22 miles befoe the tank was empty. Can you help me diagnose/fix this? 1. The tank was definitely full at the start, and definitely empty after 22 miles. 2. I ride fairly conservatively, so I don't believe I could have burned all this gas. 3. At one point during the ride my son says he saw liquid coming from one of the overflow tubes, but I checked several times and didn't observe this myself. 4. We didn't lay the bike down, so there were no big spills. Based on the above my best guess is that the float stuck at some point and I lost some gas. Is this common with new bikes (less than 10 hours)?

Set your float, and see if that helps. That was my first thought when I read your post. Give the carb a good cleaning, and see if it does anything. Are you smoking or getting a lot of spooge? Last edited by SirFallsALot243; 11-09-2004 at 05:26 PM.

Definately sounds like the suspect is your float height. Check your service manual to see what the recommended float height is, and set it at that. How To Set Your Motorcycle Carburetor Float Level There's an EXCELLENT thread on how to set your float height.

Stuck float, or mis adjusted float gets my vote too. Just because the bike is new, doesn't mean you didn't get crap in your gas, or gas can. It only takes a very small piece of debris to make the float valve stick open, thereby flooding the carb, and out the overflow goes the gas. The fact that your son saw liquid coming out from one of the overflow tubes especially leads me to believe this was the case.
