Hey I am just wondering how much do you think I can get out of my 05 YZ 250. Its brand new and only has about 5 hours on it(2 Tanks of gas), consisting of 2 wood rides. Zero races on this bike, and everything works fine. Changed transmision oil after break in, and only about 2 hours on the bike with new oil. The sprockets and chain will probally not come with the bike as I will probally be putting them on my new 450. So how much do think its worth? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have gone through about 10 plugs trying to get this thing to be jetted correctly, and Im tired of it fouling plugs. Im going 4 stroke, and not looking back. Thanks

going to four stroke? why, once your bike is jetted nice it will run like a champ. as for the value id say 4500 for a good price. maybe not sure

My friends 250F starts first kick, every time, does not foul a plug or get flooded and its just so much easier to ride/jump. I was thinking more along the lines of 5,000, cause its pratically brand new. I meen the front tires still have little nipple things on them. |

First of all, thumpers and two-strokes are almost two completely different beasts. If you bought a two-stroke expecting it to act like a thumper, wrong move Thumpers are not as picky about jetting at two-strokes are. Thumpers you can run rich or lean all day and chances are they will still run, maybe not the best, but they will still run and not foul plugs. 2-strokes on the other hand require more fine tuning. It sounds like you have yours way on the rich side if its fouling after every time you stop, or wash the bike. I didn't get my 125 dialed in until about the 10th rejet. Ask guys who own 250's on the forum what they have theirs jetted at and go from there if you want to give it one more chance.

I have an '03 yz 250. I'm at 800' above sea level and I have never needed to change the jetting. The only thing I change is the air screw based on the outside temps. I'm not into woods riding. I ride mx only, so it's ridden pretty hard. I don't know about the 05's but the 03's were spot-on at sea level based on the reviews. What oil to gas ratio are you using? That's important. If it's 32-1 per the book then it could tend to foul plugs if the oil brand you're using is meant to be run at say 40 or 50-1. I run Amsoil Dominator at 50-1. I've never fouled a plug. My point is this, run the right oil to gas ratio based on the type of oil. With the lubrication side of life taken care of then look at the color of your plug. It should be light brown. I don't want to get too detailed, but you can check plug color at full throttle and at midrange. Oil to gas ratio is one thing and gas to air is completely different.

I think you should be able to get $5000 for it. My bike is still on the original plug! I am also running the VForce 3, PC304 silencer, Uni filter and the bike is still on the stock jetting.....and runs perfect. I think you should at least get someone to jet it for you before you sell it and lose money on the deal. When jetted correctly they run awesome!

It sounds like your floats might be needing some adjustment. I have 05 yz 250 with hundreds of crosscountry racing miles on it. #48 pilot #178 main 40:1 Motul 800. 400' to 8800' and she still goes and rails like no other. Good Luck

Im using Yamalube 2R(/foul a plug lube) at 40:1 ratio with 93 octane pump gas. But tomorow I think im draining my YZ 250 gas tank of the Yamalube and going to Amsoil or some better quality stuff. I meen, while it sits there and idles with the choke to warm up just like the manual says to do, it just loads up, and black lube drips out of the oil line, and then it will just foul a plug. Its so dang annoying. But once its warmed up(ussualy after going through a plug or two just to get to this point) it will start first kick and run like a champ. But I think Im selling it also cause its so wierd to jump. It seems like im either going to do a backflip or endo every jump, and basically I do. Its not me either, cause I have been jumping my Raptor for about 3 years at MX tracks and my friends 250F is a piece of cake to jump. Thanks for all your advice guys, this bike is really awesome riding through the woods, but starting it and jumping is practically impossible. I dunno, hopefully it will find a better home, and I can be a "lazy" four stroke rider. |

I wouldn't sell it. Its an awesome bike. I run 32:1 Yamalube 2-R with stock jetting and I don't have a problem and this is when its 70 outside and dont have any sppoge drip out of the silencer, but on all my YZ's it drips out of the p.v. hose and thats nothing to worry about. You could try putting the stock jetting back in and run a BR7EG if your not on the gas all the time or just are getting used to it. Thats what I did when I first started riding a 250.

Going from 32:1 to a 40:1 would make it run richer. Youre running 40:1, try 32:1. Keep it on the pipe, or blip the throttle since you ride woods. And if its you who is jetting it, have a shop try it, since you cant seem to get it right.

Never mind me...I'm just sitting here drooling. I took mine on a good days woods ride right when I bought it. Other than that its just been ridden around the homestead and over at a relatives farm. I'd never really ridden a 2-stroke before, and the first time it WAS intimidating. I think you should give it a little more seat time. You have the BEST 250 smoker on the planet, IMO. It would be a shame to not give it a chance. But if you want to go 4-stroke, well..to each his own. Good luck!

I have an '04 YZ250 and I used to get the black spooge drip out of the silencer, but never foulded any plugs. I jetted the bike. I lowered the pilot to a 48 from a 50, lowered the main jet from a 178 to a 175, and raised the clip on the needle one position. The bike doesn't spooge anymore and it feels like it has more snap. If it is fouling plugs and loading up, I would deffinetly lower the pilot jet one size and turn the air screw out in small increments. Its a pain in the Just my two cents. khyz250

I am running 93 octane pump gas with Mobil 1 MX2t at 32:1. No spooge. Sunday at the track i started the bike with the choke on and turned the choke off after about 10 seconds...the bike was good to go. Outside temp was 65 and I am at about 700ft above sea level...stock jetting. I think j.gordon my be right. Check your float level. It is not uncommon for the float to be off right from the factory.

No way I would take a hit and sell that bike bro. I am curious when you say you are fouling plugs....what do they look like when they come out? Also are you fouling them in the cold weather only? I assume you haven't had a chance to ride the bike in the warm weather yet. I have seen several bikes (Including my old '95 YZ and my 99 banshee) that would eat NGK spark plugs in the cold weather no matter WHAT you did with jetting, just something to do with NGK and that particular igition system I guess becuase others with the same ride in both cases and the same jetting as me never suffered the same woes. Just a thought, I wouldn't sell that bike though dude....no way.

Hopefully I can get a 450 for a good price, I don't really care if its a 04 or 05 as long as it runs. |
