It is usually stamped right on the manufacturers tag, on the frame...between the upper and lower triples.

about 3/4ths of the way through the serial number will but 00 and that's your clue. And now the 2000 YZ 250s did not come with an aluminum sub frame, however there are aluminum subframes available for them. I have one with a steel subframe BTW.

Check the 10th digit of the VIN number...the 10th character identifies the model year. For example: 1988(J), 1989(K), 1990(L), 1991(M), 1992(N), 1993(P), 1994(R), 1995(S), 1996(T), 1997(V), 1998(W), 1999(X), 2000(Y)------2001(1), 2002(2), 2003(3), 2004(4), etc. For your YZ to be a 2000 the 10th digit would be a "Y".

Didn't the 2000's have a white airbox? (not that that's proof, but could help) http://www.allthingsmoto.com/photopo...2000_yz250.jpg Last edited by yz250guy; 01-20-2005 at 04:49 PM.

I am pretty sure the stock colours are black for 99 and white for 00 for the airbox. Mine is a 00 and has white airbox, while the pics of 1999's I have seen are black. However, you can get aftermarket ones if you need to and they are may be different in colour than stock.

dont think so, gonna get the bike in 2 hours!! He says the hole in the rear sprocket is smaller from a 2000 than a 99 and the front numberplate mounting is also different. the rear rim is a replacement, forgot to check the front rim anything else i can check if it is a 2000?? I thought mybe the 00 on the framenumber is the year?? OG05C00463 NOTE: this is a european bike not an american bike

Then all bets are off. The info Faded gave you is only for decoding a US VIN. You're also unlikely to be able to get any info on it from a US dealer either.

Yep, being a non-us bike, the vins will be different. The internet (And I have no idea where to point you towards other then find a dealer online from overseas) is your only hope. I can tell you for sure though that the '00's had a white airbox.

You need to look at the neck of the frame, and look at the VIN. It will have 17 digits. Doesn't matter is is from over seas or not. The serial number isn't going to do you any good. Last edited by LoKi; 01-21-2005 at 02:54 PM.

In addition, the VIN IS the serial number. The number stamped on the neck of the frame is the same as the number on the plaque on the side of the frame. |

Maybe I should have worded my response better. Doesn't matter what country it's from it will still have a vin. Each countries codeing will be different, but you should still be able to tell what year. Also if there's any paper work for the bike. You can tell what year by the date manufactured. We deal with vins from vehicles from all over. Each has a designated way to figure it out. That's what a vehicle indentification number is for. Vehicles don't use a serial number. Parts do.
