Default trying to get perfect jetting!

I have always noticed that my bike has a "slight" and i mean very slight bog right off of at rest. and it has always been there, just always thought of it due to my clutch/throttle control, (too fast or too slow) But i'm starting to think its jetting... it is by no means bad, but it is slightly annoying having to rev pretty high to get going when starting in sand or on a hill. So i have been playing with the air/fuel screw, but haven't noticed much of a difference, what jetting changes could i play around with to try and fix this??? the rest of the powerband rocks, no bog or hesitation anywhere... oh it is a yz250...
thanks ahead of time!

Pilot jet or needle.

How many turns out on the air screw allow it to run the best? This would be a decent indicator of how your pilot circuit is currently sized.

it runs nicely at just under 1 full turn out. any more or less at it smokes a lot or bogs off idle worse...

Pilot is too small.

awesome! ill give it a shot, also, another question with this is, wouldn't changing the diameter of the needle also help? or would that effect the entire range?

Nic -

To answer your question simply - yes to a minor extent. The needle's influence is a bit higher in the RPM than the problem you describe - or at least my interpretation of it.

It would be best to size the pilot and tweak from there. The needle can eliminate minor hiccups but if it's a noticable bog in lower RPMs, the needle won't bail you out.
