The 100 and the 90 are millimeters. The 19 is inches. 19 is your rim size. 100 is how wide your tire is and the 90 is how tall it is from rim to knobby.

The 100 is how wide the tire is in millimeters.
First number (100) is the width, second number (90) is the percentage of the height (Thickness) based on the width, third number is the rim size.

Example- If a tire was 100mm wide, 90% of that would give you a 90mm height.
The most important thing is the rim size, 19 means 19, nothing else will fit.
You can play with larger & smaller width tires, but check your owners manual- going bigger or smaller can adversely affect your handling & traction.

And then there's Michelin- sizes of all their own making..

Ditto, Michelin does do their ownthing fo sho.
A 110/90-19 will fit on the rim for a 100/90-19 but the 110 IS a wider tire and will be a little tougher to get on the rim.

I think they all make up their own sizes. some almost have seemed like they meant their measurements to be taken without consideration of the knobs.

when you say sand tires are you talking about a knobby type or a paddle type?
