thinking of purchacing a 2000 yz 250

Hello out there. Last summer I had to sell my 98 cr250 now I'm in the market for another bike. I've been looking for a 00-01 cr250 but came across a 00 yz250.

I've always had hondas and I like the 92-01 engines so my question is how does the yz stack up to the cr? Are there any quirks about the engine I should know about. Any other input to help me make a good decision is great.

I had 99 yz250 was a great bike but even though i'm a yamaha guy and I currently have a yz250 2008......go the 01 CR they are a great bike my mate has one and it really was wayy better than my old yz. it was super reliable and the engine on the 01 is nuts....also don't know what kind of riding you do but alloy frames are great...no rusting/painting frames all the time....well that's just my opinion not really based on any special facts and blah but I can say it now that I no longer have the old bike which may have gotten offended.

I have owned both a 01 and a 00 YZ250. The motors are quite different. The 00 is easy to use, with power across the rpm range, the throttle is more like a rheostat than a dirtbike throttle. The 01 is pipie, quick revving and has a hit. The 00 is so smooth it's really not comparable to the 01.

The forks on that generation of Yamaha needs some work if your planning on doing more than trail and play riding.
