Hey I don't know a darn thing about oil, but I do know Caterpillar equipment. I have run all kinds of wheel loaders and dozers and the like. Nearly ALL come from the factory with 30w gear oil in the trannys. Just so you know a loader has a torque converter. Some use ATF but that is generally reserved for some dozers, Komatsu I think uses it.

I checked Dirtbike magazines website and if you put any faith in Mr. Know it all, he says everyone he knows uses ATF with no harmfull effects.

As for the benefit of ATF over custom oils, well I paid $11.00 for a can of synthetic for my bike, ATF is what, a buck?

Please take this next comment in the spirit it is given. Engeneers are great at drawing things up, and making things. Making the things the engineers build work well is someone elses job. I have seen so many things that would work great in a shop, or on a bench, fail because there were variables that the guy designing them could not have possibly forseen. I have respect for people that design things, but I would take the opinion of someone that has real world expirience over a lab test.

Besides when you compare lab tests, a very marginal benefit can be made to look like the second comming if a couple of things are in place. #1 who is paying for the test #2 what do they WANT TO SEE?

Bottom line, experience over lab test. No question in my mind.

04whyzee....just a thought on your shifting....have you tried running a little less freeplay on your cable? might help give the clutch a little more room to disengage.

i've been using mobile 1 15w50 in my new cr for the past cpl weeks now....can't really tell anything different...maybe less in gear "creep"or drag.....none of the yz's i've ever owned shifted as easy as a honda. cr's and rm's always felt smooth and easy to shift....kaw's and yamaha's always seemed stiff and notchy, but you just get used too it and it feels ok(normal)to ya.

uh, did you read go to the site and read the posts? I saw not one that supported the argument that the link poster was using.
i guess i should have cut and pasted the whole thing and taken up two pages here of alot of non bike related stuff, just to show that i was not trying to put a spin on the data.
