Default Strange VIN Number - Advise needed...

Firstly hello to everyone from Sunny England! (well not so sunny today)

Im the proud owner of a 250YZ today - one of my childhood dreams! Having bought my bike i wanted to verify a few things. Using the search i've been told the VIN number should be located behind the number plate on the left handside of the frame.

I do have a stamped number in the frame and it reads "3.SP-024122" which seems alittle stange in comparison to other peoples VINs (i'm quite a few digits missing?)

Can any body shed some light on this for me pleeeeease...

Thanks again & your comments appricated.

James.

James,

Yes the vin number should be on the steering stem behind the front number plate and should be stamped into the steel. It usually says something like "KVM123486333589901" (this is purely fictional). It has numbers and letters in it and as your friends said it is a long number. Does it look like sombody has filed or grinded off a section of the steel?...if so i would suspect that bike is HOT! although maybe for England the vin's are not very big?....also it could be your vin is located on another section of the bike and that might be due to age of the bike too!?!...although that i am not sure of?!

Goodluck~

Thank you Ford,

I am abit suspect to tell the truth.. Im going to speak to my Yamaha dealer tomorrow in hope that maybe over here in the UK our bikes have shorter VIN's or maybe due to age is located else where as you suggested.

I have taken a picture, but not sure how to host is here - just to how what i mean..

Rockport,

No problem for the help, i just hope that i have helped! All things considered though it does sound a little suspect but i hope you have good luck at the delarship and havent gotten a bum deal. If you have gotten a HOT bike you can always go back to the person you bought it from and give them a choice, they give back your money or you turn them in!

Goodluck and do please keep us updated!

Cheers
