Re: Riding Tips Gary Semics was one of the people who helped mc grath. He has a website gsmxs.com i believe. He sells books and tapes, and I would suggest them rather than ask here.
The prime thing to work on is balance and body position. His book will help there. Contrary to what some will tell you, I have found it easier to teach new riders on machines that are geared quite a bit lower than stock. Mild engines are nicer to learn on too. The reason I like lower geared "learners" is that you get fewer frustrating engine kills on start up, and you find you need a higher gear sooner. Therefore the novice gets into shifting easier. I even hear people say "gear it up so they don't jerk their arms out of their sockets!". I have seen more stalls that "arms being jerked out of their sockets".
So if you have the option of changing the gearing, it may be wise to take it.
The YZ will be harder to ride at first, but it is more up to date as far as a performance bike is concerned. Gear it down, maybe even run a higher heat range plug while you are learning and still riding slow, and you will make out just fine. |
