Default Reducing power delivery of YZ250?

Has anyone tried reducing the power output of a YZ250? The idea came to me when I was working on my sons PW50. A simple idea of putting an exhaust restrictor in the exhaust reducing the gas flow through the engine. Works great on the PW, so might try same thing on the YZ250. The only reason I'm going to try this, is nephew is coming out this summer for a month to ride and the only bike I can lend him is a YZ250? He's not at that level as he is a beginner and has only ridden a YZ125. Anyway will give it a go and post the results as I go through different diameter washers.
