So yesterday out riding at a local race 1st place battling with a kdx 200 my 2002 Yz125 just cut out at the end of the straight. Got the bike off the track and back to the truck took out the spark plug. The of the plug showed a tan color but the electrode and whats around it had a red tint to it. So i'm guessin I have tranny oil in my head now :zap . Throw in a new plug just for the hell of it. No compression on the kick starter. Wow... my piston rings must be toast

i got all my parts at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] they have pretty good prices and ship fast. You'll need a piston kit, complete gasket set, and probably main bearings (you can get a Moose main bearing/seal kit for like $50), that should be it if your cylinder is good. Also there is no gasket between the cases just yamabond (a gasket compound) so youl need a tube of that, and some blue locktite for your case bolts, and oh yeah a good shop manual! P.S. Its a good idea to get your crank trued when your replacing the mains Last edited by YZGreg; 03-20-2005 at 09:51 PM.

I must stress I can't take it to a shop. I let them do tires for me thought it be like 160$ turned out to be 320$. This is my 1st rebuild on a yamaha. motocross.com has a rebuild guide they did to a YZ so i'm goin to follow there guide I have a 250 service manual for a 03 YZ250 so im using that as a reference also. I heard it's hard to seperate the case any way of doin this easily?

Take everything off the engine, and have the shop use a case splitter. Do everything else yourself. Shouldnt cost a thing.

And rather then rebuilding the crank, chances are it had some hours on it anyway. If you decide to just replace it, it should be around $180, and you wont need to have it balanced.

Can't stress enough how easier it is to work on your bike with a GENUINE manual for your bike.
