i just bought a '99 YZ 250 to use as a practice/play bike as i race supermoto on a 4 stroke diesel. anyway, the bike is damn clean(still has the safety decals, etc on it). but the question i have is, there's a breather/overflow hose coming off of the cylinder near the power valve. it seems to be spewing out a bit of liquid. not a full on puke. but it seems more than it should. what the hell is it? should i worry about it? yes. i know i need to find a service manual for it. except for pro tapers and frame guards, the bike is all stock. i may swap the silencer. any other upgrades or cheap mods you'd recommend? also, what all has changed between the 99-04 models? aren't they the same platform? what parts fit(pipe, etc)? lastly, what other forums are out there for 2 strokes? anything like TT? that's the bees knees for the 4s(no offense. i always thought 4 strokes were lame. that's why i raced 2 stroke gp roadracers

Nick, First of all, WELCOME TO ATM BRO!!! Hope you visit us and post often. 2nd: You have bought a awesome bike, I owned the exact model right before my 450. As for the spuge coming out the powervalve overflow, completely normal, don't give it a second thought. I would however dissaseble the powervalve and give it a good cleaning, but DON'T try it wihout a manual, as that valve is a 3 pc design and not really all that simple, it's not as bad as a KIPS but not as easy as past years either. Alot has changed on the newer bikes in terms of suspension and such but for the most part you won't notice too much of a difference, the first thing I would do is get a oil change done on the forks and shock and set the sag etc. The pipe/silencers off the newer bikes will not fit, nor will most of the plastic etc. As for other forums, you don't need any other ones bro, you found the best one on the net. If you have any other questions on that bike, let me know I owned one for alot of years and had it in as many parts as possible at one time or another.

thanks for the prompt response. i'm in the right place. i'm going to change all the fluids, charge the shock, etc. throw on a new chain and sprockets and i'm off to ride. however, i will clean out the power valve as soon as i find a service manual.

Just as a side note, check E-bay for a service manual alot of times they will have them on there in pdf format ect for fairly cheap. Good luck man! |

I didn't race last year, but rode most of them in '03. Perfect Bellville bike would be lowered a couple of inches basically. most are stock MX bikes. Although there is a class C tire class, most run knobbies. Your SM bike is probably spot on with the right tires...... It's a cool place to race. Down side is it's such a long night. They run the whole mini program before you get to even practice. Way too many quads. (Sorry guys!) You gotta get there early to get a spot to park and then wait it out.

because everybody knows that 2 strokes aren't pigs. well, unless you're riding some kawi or suzi multi cylinder from the 70's. they're quite pigish.
