Question owners manual, premix ratio

I just joined the board. I bought a 2000 yz250 in really great shape with a FMF pipe and Shorty silencer. The first thing I need to find is a user manual for the bike. The second thing is premix ratio....I am in Atlanta, hot and about 1000 feet elevation. I traditionally ran 32:1 in my last bike, a 99 KTM 300ex/c. I ran 32:1 to start in the yz, but it seems a bit rich. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You'll have to play around with jetting to get it right. Some people might tell you to go to 40:1 to see if it helps...yes you can do that but i prefer getting the jetting sorted out instead of bouncing around to different mix ratios. I don't know the sites that carry manuals..I forget the addresses to them but EBAY usually has some if you look. Just make sure you get a "SERVICE" manual and not the owners manual..I have seen on EBAY someone say they have a service manual for sale but in there picture they show owners manual...the owners manual won't tell you how to tear the bike down and work on it.

Oh and WTATM(Welcome to AllThingsMoto)

Oh and let just say,I can't help you on jet sizes, etc because I am not a jetting guru..but before you mess with jets be sure and check the float level to make sure it is set at the right height...if the float is to high you will have to much fuel in the float bowl and it will make the bike run rich across the entire RPM range...if its to low you won't have enough fuel in the bowl and will run lean.

A really good jetting guru that we have here at ATM is "FADED"...if you don't see him reply before to long..send him a PM with the link to this post..I am sure he can help out alot more than I can.

For aftermarket manuals, I have found the clymer manual to be pretty good. I have always run my YZ at 40:1, but I recently spent some time getting my bike properly jetted and now run it at 32:1 and couldn't be happier.

I don't think they make a clymer manual. They don't list one on their website anyway. Yamaha is $60 for a service/owners manual. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] is $62.95. I have been looking on ebay for myself, and no luck, for 3 or 4 weeks.

That is for my '01 YZ250. I haven't seen anything on ebay for a 2000 either.

Thanks! I've been running 32:1 and it seems to be running great. I continue to look for manuals on ebay and have found none. BTW any Atlanta riders out there?

For Yamaha Dirt Bikes the Owners manual will tell you just about anything you need to know about how to work on your bike, of course it is not a service manual but it has helped me with everything I have needed from bottem end to fork rebuild it even has torque specs for every bolt on the bike. I really think an owners manual is all you need. Oh and you should definatly mix 40:1 and I always use yamalube 2R If it matters to you or not I am a Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, tech at a dealership in Oklahoma and I have raced for 20 years. But if you do go to 40:1 you should still check your jetting but at 40:1 your power valves wont gum up as bad
