Default Need Help

Hi guys glad I found this board. Looks like a great place. I have owned a Yamaha DT 175cc (year 1975) for about 5 years. I have been playing around with it but have yet to get it started. I have wanted to get into bikes for years now but keep putting this project aside. I am good with cars but bikes are new to me. I do know that I have No Spark! I have replaced the points and condensor. I tested the coil resistance and get:
Primary coil resistance 2.2 OHM
Secondary coil resistance 10.63 OHM
I don't have the right book so I don't know what it supposed to be. I have a book for the similar Yamaha RS and RX (years 1974-1994). The book says
Primary coil resistance for RS125 1.7 OHM
Secondary coil resistance for RS125 6.0 OHM
Primary coil resistance for RS100 1.02 OHM
Secondary coil resistance for RS100 6.0 OHM

Does my coil sound like it's shot or are the numbers close enough? Could it be the stator?? Please help this bike is driving me nuts. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the zoo! If you need any help or have a question here please let a moderator know.

I think I would check the coil wire and plug cap as a precaution before you go too far. You seem to understand the electrics pretty well so I bet you can lick this problem.

I would check on a Clymer classics manual. These are coming out now. That is probbly your best bet for a rebuild on this old of a model. You should also do an on line search for a site that specializes in these bikes. Please keep us posted here.

I think that FFRacing11x may have some pointers on this problem. When the Springfield flat track race weekend is done next weekend P.M. with your problem.

Hey Rockey, you are pretty sharp with these 2 smokes. You should help out a new member!
