Default I'm new. Stupid questions.

Hey all.
Just picked up a 91 yz 250.

Got a dang good deal on it. Now to my stupid questions.

This is my first bike, and I would like to replace all the plastics on it as they are in need of it. Where is a good place to get the plastics for a 91? Also need a place for graphics.

The bike also needs piston rings. The piston itself looks to be in good condition, any way to be sure if it needs to be replaced?

I don't want to increase preformance too much as of yet, it is my first bike and want to keep it as slow as I can for now, but are there any mods that will make it run smoother, or ride better?

TIA.

First off there is no such thing as a stupid question...just stupid answers Welcome to ATM!!! Replace the piston, rings, upper end bearing, and piston pin. Also replace the gaskets and cir clips on the piston. Replacing just the rings is like changing the oil filter on a car and not changing the oil. Check out Eric Gorr's site for rebuild tips...[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Good luck with the new (used) bike!

I think to check the piston you can measure it you should measure the cylinder to. You probably should check the crank bearings too. If you ride in trails a flywheel weight might help smooth the power delivery out some.

Ohh you could try ebay for the plastics, I think i can get a new set for under $100 on there. You could also try [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] i have heard good things from both.

All I seem to be finding are the 92 and up plastics. I would like blue plastics and all they have is white for the 91... anyone know anyother places?

You can replace your old plastic with the white stock ones and get some OEM blue Yammy paint in a can. That what I did with my 90, looks great.
