There are a few things to consider on this issue.
1. Is the throttle cable routed correctly?
2. Is the throttle cable adjusted too tight?
( To test #1 & #2...Crank up the bike and put in on a stand. Then turn the handle bars from one side to the other. If the engine speed changes while doing this then you will find the problem in one of those.)
3. Has the bike set for a while? If so the pilot jet may have some trash in it causing a lean
condition which will make it idle high.
4. Yes the air screw can and will have an effect on the idle speed.
5. Is the fuel mix fresh?
6. An air leak at one of these points can effect your idle speed....
A. Carb manifold ( rubber boots)
B. Head gasket
C. Base gasket
D. Crank seals
