Hey guys, i just have a question: I'm picking up a 1999 yz125-Racers Edge Performance suspension,Racers Edge Performance port + polished, bored carburator, milled head,V-Force Reeds,FMF fatty, FMF shorty, Renthal bars, Renthal chain + sprockets, Fast Line converted front brake line, Excel rims, New Troy Lee Design graphics kit i have ridden a cr85 and a kx100 before, and know how it hits and how to ride it and all, but what should i really expect out of this bike power-wise? also, what kind of matinence am i looking at? i know new top end when i get it to keep schedule, and air filter, and oil, but what else? almost forgot, is there anyway to lower the compression so i can run regular gas? it says i need to run race gas and i dont have that kind of money thanks Last edited by yzpinger; 05-14-2005 at 07:39 AM.

Congrats on the new bike, sounds like it's gonna RIP! The bike is going to have quite a bit more power than the KX100 and CR85 you rode......actually, a lot more power! Just take it easy for the first few days, and you'll get the hang of it in no time! Maintence is pretty basic, air filter, transmission oil, lube the chain, keep the bike clean, check the spokes, as long as you stay on top of it, you should be pretty safe. To lower the compression to run pump gas, you are going to have to buy a stock head (look on eBay, I'm sure you could pick one up for under $50), that will be the only way if your current head is milled. You will lose some performance, but that bike should still be pretty fast considering the mods it has done. Good luck!!!

Congratulations are definitely in order! You say you don't have the money for race gas. Surely the high octane at the pump will work. Around here it's about 10 cents more per gallon than regular. You would buy 500 gallons of high octane before you broke even with spending $50 on a stock head. Just food for thought. Good luck and happy racing!

meh, i'd keep the head as it is and just run race gas. Pump 93 is about $2.50, 112 is $5.75 near me. Not a huge added expense, and the added bark of the higher compression will be nice.
