Hey I just picked up a 11 oz flywheel weight for my 2000 YZ250 and I'll be doing a test on it Sunday. I've been riding the stock motor for 2 yrs and love it so we'll see if it just gets better.

For woods riding, I would go for the 10 oz and above like Psyco is using. I am anxious to hear what he thought of it in Muenster.

Ok guys, I didn't get to ride with the flywheel weight on my bike this last weekend. I couldn't get the flywheel nut off with the tools I had at the track and never made it back to munster yesterday to try it out. As far as riding munster with my YZ and no extra weight I didn't really have any problems as that's more open country than what I am used to chasing cows through. Poom if you would like this flywheel weight I'll send it your way for 70 dollars shipped to your door. PM me with your answer.

Poom, I have an 11 oz "Steahly Off Road" fly wheel for a 2000 YZ250. I used it for about 6 months before I sold the bike. It really smoothed out the power delivery. It was a big improvement in the woods and on the track. I now have a 2003 YZ250 and that fly wheel won't fit. If you are interested, I will sell it to you for $50 (shipping included). It is like new and half the cost of a brand new one. Steve

I bought a new '03 yz250. I only use it for MX. After getting used to it for a couple of months, I put a Steahly 4oz flywheel weight on it. It helped smooth out the hit just a little bit. I then put the heaviest weight they make for the yz250, a 13oz. It really smoothed the power band out. Much better traction in all conditions. Would be the best for woods riding and (in some conditions like mud or hard pack), for MX as well. I ended up having Steahly turn down the 13oz to 11oz. They will do this for $10 in the first 30 days. The best way to go is just order the 11oz to begin with. I wanted to try all three. I felt the 13oz took too much of the hit out of it. In reality, it probably would have been fine even for MX. The 11oz is what I stayed with. That and V-Force reeds are the only mods I have done to the engine. Adding flywheel weights on the 250 two strokes makes a huge difference in traction and ridability. Don't let anyone tell you they will slow the bike down. Based on my experience, I believe they will give you better traction which equals better acceleration in all conditions. Why are the four strokes so easy to ride, and why do they get their power to the ground so well? It's because of their smooth power delivery. That's what you're doing when adding flywheel weight on the 250 two strokes. With the 250's there is no shortage of HP, it's how you use it that will improve your lap times. Chad Reed or Bubba may need more HP, but most of us don't.
