My YZ 80 is so pimped, it pops when I give it a little throttle. Instead of ripping of parts to soften the powerband, someone told me to get a flywheel weight. Will it work? I want the powerband as smooth as a 4 stroke, or pretty similar. Thanks!

Yes, a heavier flywheel will make the power roll on more, and less hard hitting.

The extra flywheel weight will help, but there is no way it will make a 80cc 2 stroke smooth or even remotely 4 stroke-ish. Sorry

the YZ85 has a hit so hard it popped wheelies if you would just roll the throttle on. i can see where the hit would make it difficult to manage when you are in some sticky terrain. overall though, i must agree with the other memebers. i LOVE the hit of a 2 stroke 85/85

The '87 on up YZ 80s were known for their hit! So much so the factory GYT bulletins gave pointers on how to tame it down. One was a cylinder base mod, another was a pipe mod, etc. Check with your local Yamaha dealer and ask him for a copy of the mods. Tdub

I cant stand the hit!!!! I cant go anywhere without me falling off the thing cuz it pops such a huge wheelie. Especially with a new tire. I was on my friends track and I went into a burm, came to the top and gave her some gas and flew backwards into my friend and his YZ 125 and he almost ran into me. Luckily he was just about to come out of the burm, but kept his brakes locked. I just dont like the hard hit. It is really hard. Even my friend at 6 feet is afraid of it and he has been around 2 strokes for a good 4 years. It might be the bike. Anyways, I am gonna go with a 12 oz. Steahly flywheel weight. This just gonna get me used to some of the powerband, until I can get ahold of it and take over. Its weird jumping from a not pimped 4-stroke, to a pimped 2-stroke. Anyways, Thanks!! Great help!

we put a weight on a 99 that was way heavier than the 12 oz you speak of. It works. We made one for a KX100 for the same man since then. It works too. You may be more in the market for something like a tt125 though if the motor mods you were told about as well as the flywheel doesnt turn the yz80 into your kind of bike.

I have a TTR 125l. I love it. I am gonna sell my YZ and put a squirt of money into the TTR to go the speed I want it to go. The flywheel weight was on back order, so I said screw it and I am trying to sell it. Anyone want it?
