Default Finally Got One.....

After much deliberation and bidding, I finally managed to pick up a silencer for my bike. It is off eBay.

I won a near new FMF SST PowerCore2 SHORTY for $31.00.
To me, this seems like a reasonable bargain as for the same silencer it costs $165.00 (american) new here...

Plus $19.00 shipping.
Apparently it requires no jetting changes.

Here is a pic of the shorty silencer below.

I know it probably not as good investment as reed cage, but that is out of my price range at the moment, and this seemed cheap enough.

Does anyone have the SST Shorty silencer and what did it change? Also, does it sound much different from stock. Is it deeper like PC units??

Thanks!

no...only on certain models. And since it is shorter...it will be louder

Congrats! Ebay is one of my favorite places to frequent, so many good deals so little time. Speaking of good deals I let 2 new side panels go for about $21 dollars shipped, DOH! Mine are nasty. I need that pesky rear fender, and a new seatcover/graphics kit. Oh yeah number plate too, and she'll look like new again!! I am procrastinating right now though, don't know why.

Oh yeah, I remember now, the blue plastic turns white really easily. So i figured maybe just speed up the process and get an all white plastics kit, then remembered about the blue tank and blue frame. Thought it might look weird. BAH, I don't know. Sorry off topic.

Seriously though good buy!

I asked and was told that you do not need the SST pipe for the silencer. It fits with stock pipe. However, if you were to run a SST pipe, you would need the SST silencer.

Confused?? I hope not.

Btw, I know it will be louder, but as long as it is not a obnoxious loudness. I have heard a custom job kinda shorty made from a stock silencer and it sounded really annoying. Hope the FMF isn't!

Ryan, I have not paid for it yet. ( doing that this afternoon)

You mainly just go by the seller's feedback rating and comments.
Be wary of people who haven't sold any items yet. You can usually email them some questions and from there replies you can tell a bit about them. (how serious, past experience)

Most of the time it's just a new person to eBay (like yourself) who hasn't put anything up for auction yet and therefore has not got a feedback rating.

But really, if you were selling something on eBay, you would want to keep a good reputation for later selling of items, so about 90% of eBay sellers are genuine. Just make sure you ask any questions you have about the item before you bid.

Yeh, I have been looking (and bidding) on quite alot of pipe/silencers and combo on eBay, but none have been extremely cheap. Most still well below RRP but not cheap enough for me as I have to add on shipping to Australia.

I was watching this and asking questions from the start fo the auction. I wasn't really going to worry about it if it went over $40.00. But with less than 14 hours left and the bidding at $30 i decided to put a bid in.
At this stage I wasn't worried about winning it really. And I entered my bid on Saturday night and couldn't check until the next afternoon when it had ended. I was pretty certain it would go for more.

That Sunday I went riding at my friend's place (check out website for pics and vids soon) for the day. One of my mates had a PC shorty and it sounded nice and apparently made it rev better.
About then I thought I should have entered in more than $31.00!

But to my surprise I had won the FMF SST Shorty Silencer!

Sorry to make this post long, just had to let you know how excited Iam!!

Thanks

I would be interested in reading a post that reviews it after you put some time on it.

Sounds like a good buy. I have bought and sold a bit on ebay over the years. If you look, you can definitely find some bargains. At the very least you can find things you otherwise cannot locate.

Yep DCox, you can expect a review of the SST Shorty compared to the stock unit!

Can't wait!

What is the advantage of using a "shorty"?

Claimed to improve bottom-end response and rev-out free(er).

Perfect for making bike hit powerband earlier in rev range. (shifting power down lower) This silencer is also supposed to make the throttle response quicker and crispier. And this is what Iam mainly after.

Iam hoping I will be able to use a larger (13 tooth) sprocket and still maintain good bottom end by using this silencer.

Will let you know how it goes!!

AusRider,

I thought you were talking about a girlfriend...

Oh well, sounds like a good deal on that pipe. I was going to buy one of those on Ebay for my kids bike but someone bid like $10 less than retail. For that I'll just go get one at the dealer. The dealers around here usually don't stock that much merchandise so I have been able to take advantage of many great deals on Ebay. One of my best was my kid's brand new Fox Tracker Boots $40 including shipping.
