Default A few yz125 questions.

Hey

I sold my 2001 yz250f so I could buy a yzf-r6 streetbike. I've now saved up a bit of extra money that I can afford to get another dirtbike but unfortunately not another 250f, I don't have that much saved up. I'm looking at getting an older yz125.

What year did the yz125 recieve major updates? I heard that the 96 and newer ones are basically the same design just with updates every year. I also heard that it was 98 and newer. Which of these is correct?

since I just got out of bed and my head is foggy I couldn't tell you without looking something up. What I can tell you is that my cousin has a 98 YZ125 that he's never raced, but hidiously maintained for 3 years. He has just recently decided to sell it and if you were in the market he might have a deal for you. It does have quite a few new parts and a FMF Fatty pipe, turbine core II silencer for woods work, and a stock silencer for faster trails. Good luck with the rest of your questions.

in 94 the engine changed quite a bit. in 96 the frame became "narrower" as did the plastics and better forks arrived. The engine also got a small amount of improvements, which continued on the cylinder each year. In my opinion for non mx/sx racing applications Yamaha hurt it by going to a 5 speed transmission.

You can put the newer cylinders on the engines back to 94. The exhaust pipes changed the way they mount somewhere about 97 or 98.
