Question engine noise?????

I took a look at a 1999 yz250 over the weekend. When the guy started the bike, it sounded strong and had good compression, but there was a loud ticking noise that rose and fell with the rpms. It sounded like it was coming from inside the engine, but maybe it was just the aluminum radiator guard vibrating. I'm used to Hondas. Is this something that Yamahas do or is there another problem that somebody can tell me about?????? Thanks, in advance, for your answers.

Default 93 yz250 engine noise??? brand new rebuild w/needle bearings???

I have a 93 yz250 and I just built it new, had a friend put it together and he's magic with engines, I've got that same noise, but I'm pretty sure it's part of the governor system cuz it goes away at a certain rpm and it's right as the power valve is changing something cuz the sound of the pipe changes too, so i wouldn't worry since I believe you answered my question with your question. I'd say it normal cuz once the bike has a load on it and is above about 3000 rpm's it goes away and my bike has phonomenol power and no noise at any spot above where the clicking rattling sound. The governor has four ball bearings that do something with centrifugal force and my guess is it's those balls that are making the noise. I will be looking for another one to listen to, a new one and when I do I'll let you know for sure, as I'm not trying to damage my engine.

I have a 2000 YZ 250 and it does not have any ticking sound. I would say something is up.

awesome Re: engine noise?????

Maybe it's a bad clutch. My YZ85 rattles and ticks and it is because of the clutch.

I have a 2001 yz 250 and the clutch is noisy but better when you pull the lever in....from what I have heard there is nothing you can do about it.
