| I have an ancient DT175 (it's either an A or B, I know it isnt a C or later) with a pretty wasted engine, yanno, needs new bolts and screws, gaskets, piston, rings, etc. and it had no head on it for 2 years sitting out in the elements, so I'm pretty sure it needs everything short of a complete rebuild (unless pouring some seafoam into the bottom end will clean things up..if anyone knows if this works or not, let me know! I've heard great things about the stuff..) and it might be more economic to buy an entire new running engine. Anyone know of anything compatible? even with slight modifications I'd be happy (like mount positions) 2 or 4 stroke, doesnt matter. Even if it means doing some crazy frankenbike stuff, such as other brand engines, I wanna see what can be done. I'm trying to also make this street legal, I'm sure it's all possible.. |

| A Blaster motor should bolt right up. I've always wanted to try this but never came across a blaster motor to do it. They look exactly the same as the dt175 motor. If you do it I definetly want to see some PIX |

| hrmm, the question is, can it be made street legal with that engine in california? edit: read up on it, yeah it should work, funny enough they've stopped making them, the last year was '06 if I cant find any of these, any 4-stroke engines that may work? | I don't know what your willing to pay for a motor, but there are several complete running blaster engines on ebay going for $200-700. I'm not sure about a 4 stroke motor, but I would think you would have to do heavy frame mods depending on what you use due to the extra hight of the valve cover and larger crank case. |

if there are any issues, I'll just file under self-built vehicles. since it'll be a rebuilt motorcycle. also, any other engines that may work too? I know an mx175 engine will work, but those are even harder to find than a working DT175 engine. Last edited by Shadow175; 03-13-2007 at 04:32 AM. |

| IT 175's fit, as do rt180's as well. there were lots of mx engines that would too from 100's to 175's. 125 yz's as well. |

| is that all that will fit it? also, I was considering the possibility of finding a good electric motor and merging it with the works of the bike. (separate the 12V system and the 6V systems) and finding a small motorcycle trans to allow the motor to give more boost. though I dont think that'd be really effective in the end, if it can go for more than 100 miles on a charge, and give better performance than the stock engine then I'd be sold. unless it needs a 12 hour charge but I dont think with the frame constraints it'd be possible. |

| Shadow175, I would think that these series engines would be pretty easy to come by, especially in trading posts etc. I picked up an early type '75 DT175 twinshock model for parts. Found more of the mono-shock models '78 onwards were available. The later being a better engine, but differences between types are different head and barrels, not interchangeable, also later has CDI ignition. The bottom end is basically similar. Also the AG175 (farm bike) is DT based. And the early 80's trike YT175 has the same DT based engine. not sure with the 200's but based on the late 80's models that were different again before they went watercooled. Not sure what you are on about with batteries and electric motors, but for a eco friendly bike there must be plenty of other options. |

DT175s were street legal when they came out so the should be grandfathered in.. either with the original title or a salvaged title. Also AT125 engines I think are the same engine mounts. depending on the years. |

| Shadow, was your primary reason for swapping motors just to get more hp?? |

I'm looking for an engine that works, I have one, but it's toasted. (read, filled with crud, broken piston, no VIN, needs new screws, bearings, etc, cylinder doesnt fit into the bottom end any more, etc..) finding an enduro engine with a VIN would be awesome. |

| Okay, another question, will a p-twin engine work on this frame? or would such an engine be too big? though if it ends up being cheaper, I may end up buying a new bike |
