Default DT 200 riding impressions

Anyone ever owned one of these? If yes, what's it like? How's it compare to, say, a '96 RM 250 (I know it's nowhere near as fast but for the sake of comparison)? I currently have a 1986 Yamaha TT350 as a beater streeter off-roader, but have seen a DT200 in the paper alot lately. I'm thinking it will have a fair bit more stank than my TT, which is the only reason I would buy it, but if I'm to buy it I can't ride it to find out (too much snow for the next 2 months). Enlighten me please, somebody. Thank you.

Clearly. That was just food for thought. This is a beater bike I'm looking at here. Being a two stroke 200, I would expect it to have some gumption. Anyone who has owned one before could say. That is what I would like to know, from someone who can say from experience. My beater right now is decent, but of course, I want more power.

If I'm not mistaken, those DT 200's (older ones anyway) can haul arse if in good condition, PLENTY of power.

That was what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure if it was true.

I believe they have a distinct powerband and are not restricted as much as the newer ones.

Btw, I don't know if this will help much but I used to have 1988 DT175 and it was a good bike. Enough power to get around good, but not enough to reaally get into trouble.

It was really trouble-free as well. Just keep oil up to it, (check it after every couple of rides) and clean filter every so often and your good to go!

Default DT 200

I've had a 1990 for years, one of the best bikes I've ever had. I trail ride with my cousin's 90 kx 125 and have no trouble keeping up. I almost bought a xr500 to replace it until I rode them back to back. The honda was a tank I'll take my dt any day. A good dt will eat an xt 350 for lunch on the trail or the road. Mine tops out at 145 km/h on pavement bonestock with dot knobs. Have fun.

Yep, I fully believe that.

My neighbour with a 1989 (?) DT200 had his at 140km/h on our dirt road last week with a little bit left but he had to back off as it was the end of the road!
