My yz250 (04) beats the piss out of me in the desert.. I guess i need to soften things up. Anyone have a suggested starting point for me to make adjustments? I don't want to revalve.

I've got a bigger than stock IMS tank that'll hold more fuel and make the suspension seem softer while it's full.... Oh yeah it's forsale too

How much do you weigh? My brother has one and we ended dropping the spring rates to a 4.7 in the rear from the stock 4.9, and dropped the fork to a .40. Feels like a different bike. He weighs about 160 and this set up works great and he can still moto. Before you buy new springs play with your clickers...they can make a huge difference. On the shock go out 12 to 14 clicks from all the way in on the rebound damping and go out at least 10 on the compression damping. On the fork go out 8 to 10 on the rebound and 14 out on the compression. (all adjustments are counted from all the way in,clockwise) This should get you close, then go ride and test and make adjustments on one circuit at a time. Also make sure you set your race sag at 100 mm and make sure your static sag is around 10 to 15 mm. If it's not you need to go to different spring rates for optimum results.

Dude, you're riding a bike that is set up for motocross (doubles and triples) but want to do so in the desert. You will need to revalve it for optimum suspension performance. Short of that, keep trying your clickers as mentioned above until it gets better but don't expect it to be great.

My YZ250 is set up for trail riding and when I go the desert, I just lower the forks for some added stability.

If you're not happy with that I have an 04 yz250f that came with a 4.7 rear spring that I would be willing to trade for your 4.9. You can send me a PM is you're interested.
