Default coil is good... still same ignition prob!!

Okey well I got my coil checked it is still good. I got a new wire end put on and have a new spark plug. I still have a verry weak spark that wont jump the gap on my plug...... the only 2 things left are cdi and the "generator" as it's listed on yamaha's parts page. Does anyone know how to test these units so I know what to buy? If anyone has a link to used stuff or has anything to sell themselves I would definatley be interested. my buddy has a 00 yz 125 could I use his cdi just to see if thats my prob?

Make sure that your spark plug gap is set correctly.

Also, pull off the ignition cover (side oposite the clutch). Make sure that there isn't any rust on the magnets.

You are absolutely sure the spark is the problem? A spark is a spark for the most part - may want to check into other areas too.

I pulled that cover off and there was a fair ammount of rust on the side of the flywheel, I sprayed it with some wd-40 and it still wont run. The spark seems to be a bit better than before though..... I'm pretty sure spark is my prob because it doesn't have enough voltage to jump the gap on the plug. it's just a tiny pussy spark....

Hi 25097yz, Just wondering what your original problem was? I have a 97YZ125 and it sounds like its doing the same thing as yours?

Mine ran sweet when i bought it, i rode it around a bit and it was fine. I took it to the beach the next day and it just wouldnt start. Checked the plug and it was fouled. Put a new plug in it when i got home, and it started first pop. Ran for 10 mins then died again.

I thought it was the carb, so had a play with it, and leaned it out a bit to hopefully stop the fouling. I took it for a ride with a new plug, and it was sweet for about 20 minutes untill i started cruising slowly. I got fed up and took it back to the guy i bought it off. He had a play with the carb and gave it back. It was working, but it just didnt have the top end it had before. was gutless... took it to the beach again, and it died. But this time it had NO COMPRESSION. And it had done the top end.

So i am about to pick it up from the bike shop, with a new piston and ring etc. and hopefully it wont die again!!

Not sure if this is any help for you, but check your compression? The bike shop said it might have been whats causing my fouling? Guess i will find out at the beach this weekend. Fingers Crossed!!

Cheers,

Arven

First thing I would do is check all of my spark plug wires, and the cap, try one off of another bike first though
