The clutch basket on my '03 yz250 has some play that is noticable with the plates and everything installed. It has been like this for some time and seems to work but it just does not seem right. I know the nut holding it all together is tight but it bothers me for anything to feel loose in the transmission. I feel like I'm overlooking something obvious so any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks

In most cases we'll feel some gear lash between the clutch basket gear ring and the primary gear on the crankshaft. If the clutch side crank case cover is removed you should be able to view the movement between the two gears.

One thing to consider is that it's kinda loose when you check it, but you are checking it cold or at least cool. When things heat up, those clearances change. I am sure the engineers consider all areas of thermal expansion when the production clearances are determined so their machine doesn't lock up when it gets up to operating temperature. Scott
