Default Bike is running again

After seriously procrastinating for about 3 months I finally finished doing the crank bearings on my YZ. Did it all myself and I test rode the bike today for a couple hours at a local track. Everything seems to be working great. If anyone out there is considering splitting the cases I would recomend a couple things, first a flywheel puller ($15) and I would never again try it without an impact wrench. Trust me on this one, if you do it without an impact you are doing it the hard way. Other then that it is a fairly simple job. Doing this bike has given me enough confidence to tackle the 1990 YZ250 my kids filled with water....how bad could it be? Filled with water and then ignored for over a year shouldn't be too bad...

B.B., good to hear your up and running again. Was there any damage to the crank, or had you caught it in time?

Also, how did your kids fill the engine with water? The only thing that comes to my mind is putting a hose in the silencer!:

The crank was not quite as tight as I would have liked it to be, so on the advice of a machinist (or something) I added a little loctite to the shaft/bearing surface. Seems as good as good can be.

As for the question of how there came to be water in the bike, you nailed it on the head my friend. The kids stuck the garden hose in the exhaust and "topped it off".

WOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! Can I just say "It's about freaking time" We need to go riding when I get back from GMB, as long as you don't get deported??? What's up with that BTW?

Sorry I didn't get back to you on saturday, we both had plans and were pretty much gone the entire day.

Please tell me you at least drained the oil/water from the '90 and re-added some new oil, so it didn't sit in that mess for a year. If you didn't... Uh, it won't be pretty.

Yea, BB, I too am quite curious to hear the report of what that low-end looks like after a year of water storage (I presume). You may be able to donate the crank to the local museum among the other fossilization exhibits .

Seriously, dig into it and let us know.

My kid did that to my truck exhaust the other day. I caught him just as he put it in but it was spewing out water for a few minutes.

Speaking of kids, I was working on this "project" Honda 250X. I had the chain hanging on a screwdriver so it wouldn't fall into the case. I turned my back and my boy removed the screwdriver. After about 10 seconds and looking down into the case, I realized the head was going to have to come off. I didn't really want to do that, but at least I get to see the piston, sleeve and rings.

Woohoo Brokenbones has a bike again. So how does the Fillmore track sound this weekend (Saturday)? While the others are playing down in Texas.
