I just went riding today and my bike stalled, so I tried to kick it over and it would not start up. So then I pulled out the spark plug and looked at it and it was vey black and oily, and I had just changed it. Then i put a new plug into it and it started up instantly. Then I rode around for about ten minutes and it stalled again, I took out the brand new plug and it was already fouled. I am running it 32/1 do you think that I should try 45/1?

whoever jetted your bike screwed up bad. Must have i atleast 2 or 3 size's to big to be fouling out that fast. Drop it a size or 2 and see how it runs. I had a problem with that with my friends 250. I rejetted it for him ran great afterwords |

I want to say that if you took your bike to a shop to get it jetted, then you got just what you deserved. Sometimes or somehow people think that a shop has a crystal ball to tell them everything about you and how you will ride, and the condition of your machine so they can magically come up with the right jet. I know a few people who felt their bike needed jetting and took it to a franchised shop. Usually they come back jetted to what the factory sent. The easy answer is that they dont want to be responsilble for you burning up an engine, and the easy "out" if something does happen is to say it was jetted to stock specs, so it must be something in your riding. Seriously though, have you ever seen a mechanic out back of a shop testing jetting by riding a customer's dirt bike?? Ever seen them loading it up and taking it out somewhere to just see if it is "spot on"??(if yoru so called jetting cost under 100 dollars you know none of that happened.) Now you see why the best person to jet your bike is someone that rides it. When you take it to any shop you have no idea if the person who is doing it has ever even ridden one like it, and probably has no idea how you ride either. It isn't a "one jetting fits all" sort of thing. First I would ask why you took it to be jetted to begin with. Was it beginning to foul plugs on the existing jetting. Is this something that it always did?? Or is the bike new to you and you aren't sure if it did?? Go read Faded's post on setting the float. I know,,it is boring and probably you dont even understand why it needs to be done, but I bet if you do that and use a little thought, you won't be wonderingwhy your rig is fouling plugs anymore.

Read something on jetting. There are some good ones on this forum about how to go about it. Then if you still think there is one size that is just perfect for every rider of every bike like yours in every condition (elevation etc) come back and ask again.

Just find out what your main jet is. Usually the factory jets nice and rich for the break in period. Buying 4 mains, and 4 slows ( each a step below eachother) wont break the bank and will come in handy if you ride at a different elevation than you normally do.

Which jet do I need. I went to the yamaha web site and they had an area where i could locate the part that i need and there are five different main jets, and six different pilot jets, which do i get. Or should i go to a shop and have them help me.

Lets say your stock main is a 170. Main jets usually come in increments of 2.5 that small i believe, so youd probably want to either buy all 5 mainjets at once, so the 167.5, 165, 162.5, 160. You can also purchase them one at a time starting with the next one lower than your stock, so the 167.5. To test the mainjet, swap in the closest one lower than your stock first and go out and ride your bike. Keep decrementing your main jet until your WOT is clean. Stay with the highest number where it first cleans up. After youve acheive a smooth running WOT next move on to your needle jet. There is usually 5 clips on your needle jet with stock usually being 3. If you go out and test your bike and it kinda hesitates at 1/3 to 3/4 throttle this can be your main problem. Try moving the clip position to number 2 from the top. This will most likely clean up your mid throttle a bunch. Next work on the bottlem end. I cant remember what your stock pilot is but do the same thing as the main by decrementing till it smooths up. Also your air idle adjust needs to set along with the pilot. By messing with the knob and turning it all the way in your bike wont run correctly. Have fun

CRazy in nicer than I am, I've type that stuff too many times to count. If you want to "know" what jets you need then it's going to take a little effort on your part. Do a search, some reading, try to understand what's going on and then try testing the water a little to get a feel for things. Good luck. |

All right guys I just tested my bike up and down the street and wound it out, it ran perfect it has great power, but one of the neighbors was really mad. He said," if I see you riding that thing around ill have the cops all over, and they will impound it and youll never get it back."

You don't need jets. You need a factory shop manual or at least an owner's manual. Then you need to spend the time to read it. Then read it again. Once you understand the concept of jetting (from the previous link you were given) and you have a manual, then you can think about working on the bike. BTW, if you are tempted to skip any of the above, get out your wallet and prepare to pay double what you would have if you worked with a plan.

i recently bought a 2000 yz 250. ive had it out only a handful of times and now i just cant get it to run. the last time i had it out it ran great, and the only thing ive had to do is change a fouled plug. but now i cant get it to . start and stay running. ive tried new plugs, but nothing is working. when i pull the plug out after kicking over numerous times theres fuel on the plug. ive pulled the plug and the spark was fine. i did get it to start a couple of times, but it will start to rev up, and smoke pretty bad. i run 32/1 fuel. any help would be great, im new to this sight and am just getting back into riding
