For the rear wheel you first need to pull a snap ring. I take a small propane torche and heat around the bearing area and get it really hot, then take a punch and hit the end of the shaft thats in between both bearings. Make sure its really hot otherwised it wont move and shaft will get all banged up. The front is the same and there is no snap ring. To put them in you need to heat area were the bearing is going, and if you really want to make it easy, throw the bearings in the freezer first. Then find a socket the same size as the outer race and pound it in. If your replacing them, then use the old bearing to pound it in.

Well Geoff, Ya just beat the crap out of them, seriously, use a long blunt end punch and hammer and from the opposite side of the wheel you carefully, but with sharp blows, drive the bearing and race out. Work your way side to side every other couple of blows or you will end up with the bearing hopelessly wedged in the wheel. I've heard of using heat on the wheel to aid in releasing the bearing but I've never done it. Good Luck Mike

after removing circlips and or nut, heat it to where it just barely sizzles water. I have a slide hammer with an bearing extractor type of tip. If you can get one, it is well worth it and makes the replacement a two minute trick. A punch will work in it's place. "Freezing" the bearings is a good idea too.

I removed the rear bearings. They were easier than what I thought they would be. I don't have a torch/oxy so I couldn't heat them up, plus it was a cold day so I thought they would be hard to get out. But a few quick taps and they were out. I will probably have a go at the front ones today.

Yeah, the front ones are pretty easy too. I would throw the new bearing in the freezer overnight and they will drop into the hub easier.

DPW is right, if you freeze the bearings they drop right in. |
