Bake, My post is in no way an attack on you or Klotz. Even though I am an Amsoil dealer I will always try to stay impartial. I will take the good solid numbers and compare them to other brands and let you read the numbers and decide for yourself which brands are better. I know Amsoil is not for everybody and thats ok. For those that want to do research I will help supply information for your research where oils are concerned. If you choose Amsoil for your bikes, cars, trucks I will make sure you save the most money possible on what I believe to be a top flight product. It doesn't cost one penny to ask me prices and compare. It doesn't cost anything to ask me questions on how you can save money on using Amsoil in your personal vehicles with extended oil change intervals. Once you have the information you decide what you want to use and how you want to use it. I am here as a vendor to help you the ATM members save money and extend the life of your investments if you choose to do so. DBD

Flash point is the temperature at which an oil gives off vapors that can be ignited with a flame held over the oil. The lower the flash point the greater tendency for the oil to suffer vaporization loss at high temperatures and to burn off on hot cylinder walls and pistons. The flash point can be an indicator of the quality of the base stock used. The higher the flash point the better. |

Those of you who know me have knowledge of my anally retentive nature when it comes to taking care of my bikes. I can only speak from real life experience on this topic from years of riding YZ250's and YZ125's. I used Yamalube for years and had great success with it. Then, my sponsoring shop wanted me to use Silkolene Pro and I had better success than with the Yamalube. At my strict schedule for top end maintenance, the piston, barrel, and rings showed significantly less wear than with the Yamalube. I was impressed with the Silkolene product. Several years back a very good friend of mine (not Dane) became an AmsOil dealer. He knows my anally retentive maintenance schedule and gave me a couple free quarts of Dominator to use and try out and asked me to report my findings. The first thing I realized was I was able run the Dominator at a slightly higher gas/oil ratio than I ran the others. To shorten this story, when it came to my scheduled top end maintenance I was amazed to find even less wear of the rings, piston and barrel than with the Silkolene. The parts were cleaner (especially the power valve) which meant there was less gunk to have to deal with. The crank, top end and wrist pin bearings showed excellent wear resistence. As a result, I was actually able to extend my routine maintenence schedule by a few hours. For me, that is nothing short of amazing. Ever since then, I have run AmsOil in everything (including my lawn mower) for years and would not use any other oil.

After listening to Dad (dirtbikendad) not mine and doing as much research as I can get a hold of, I went in and purchased some Dominator at the Napa store. The only complaint I have is now I have to measure it instead of dumping in a pint jug to 4 gallons gas. I guess a small complaint based on the protection I will be getting. I'm sure going to miss the smell of that Maxima Castor 927.

I agree with dirtbike dad too!....i was running Bel ray H1R which is supposed to be great and i had nothing but splooge coming out and ran it 32:1 (i always run that ratio), anyhow then i ran some Motul 800 2 stroke oil and it was the same thing nothing but splooge coming out the exhaust. So i finally took my buddy's recommendation of using the amsoil first in my crank. You see he shop had a dyno and i put my 250which was using bel raygearoil for the crank and ran 47 to 48 HP on the dyno. Then he said if i could gaurantee you an extra 2 HP you pay for the oil, i said ok....he changed it out to the 10/40 Amsoil synthetic and i got an extra 2/3 HP as i ran consistently 51HP. Then he told me dont rejet your bike, throw the Amsoil Domintor 2 stroke oil and ibet you wont have anymore splooge and sure enough in the end to make a long story short i paid for the oil in my crank and also the litre of dominator. I havent had any problems and other racers here who run the dominator say the same thing about top ends ...everything is clean and in great shape. So i too HIGHLY RECOMMEND the AMSOIL products, correct me if i am wrong but werent they the company that first created synthentics?>! Cheers, Ford

I ride a 2002 CR250 and ran a ratio of 32:1 in the sand and 36:1 in the woods. Now using the Amsoil am I suppose to use it at 50:1 in both instances?

I personally would never use any 2 stroke oil at a mix more than 33:1, after all what your trying to do is lubricate the engine, so when anyone tells me you can use this oil at 50:1 or better, i just say go for life buddy, i'll stick with my tried and proven mix and my oil. When the smoke clears on the 2 stroke oil debate, just consider a few basics like how long has this product been around, how many additives are in it, and what is the base flash point, and viscosity at maximun output. look into it you'll be surprized, and castor oil was good back in 60's and 70's, before power valves and such came on the scene, so if you want glug in your engine use any oil that claims it has it in there like Silkolene.

Pete, I know you are satisfied with the ratio(s) you use and I am in no way trying to change your mind. I had done hours of research into oils and was more than satisfied the AmsOil was worthy for my equipment. I ran my YZ250's at 50:1 and my YZ125's at 40:1 with AmsOil for years without issue. I will only use this brand of oil in my cars, bikes, generator, lawn mower or any other engine I own. But, likes and dislikes of oils are ok. Kind of like boxers or briefs, Ginger or MaryAnn. Use what you like and as long as it does what you want it to, that is all that counts.

I use Maxima Castor927 at 32:1 in my yz250. Not too much spooge, haven't had any problems but only time will tell. Around here mopeds are really popular and every engine builder I know swears by it. I usually run 40:1 in my mopeds but I hear varying ratios from every different user. EDIT: Have to add I've used the Motul 800 (or is it M800?) and didn't care for it. Honestly I don't remember what I didn't like because it's been so long, I just went back to my Castor and never looked back :P
