Anyone know what a 89/90 yz250 looks like?

i got my bike a while ago and have decided to sell it for money to go on holiday, i listed it on ebay as a 98 which i stupidly beleived it was at the time of purchase but now ive heard it may be a late 89/90 model anyone any ideas?

The forks are the key. Those forks appear to be on a 1989 Yz250. If those are the original forks then the bike is an 89. The 1990's and beyond had a more wrap around guard to the forks.

If the shrouds and seat are original, then I would say that it is a 1989 Yz250 WR which was Yamaha's first attempt at an off-road model. It had idential graphics as the 89 regluar but they were blue.

Yep, that looks like a 1989-1991 model (there is not much difference between thoes years, in 1992 they had red forks I think, and then in 1993 the bodystyle changed drastically).

Definately not a 98.

The 1990 model was the only one that had red forks and the fork guards changed away from the flat front protection only of the 1989 in 1990.

got it, I started typing before you posted earlier. I used to have a 89 and 91, but never had a 90. Both my 89 and 91 had wrap-around fork guards, but the previous owner of the 89 may have retro-fitted newer guards to it.

It's an 89, but you can always verify that by getting the frame serial # and cross referencing it with the Yamaha web site.

plus the '89 - 90 had the 41mm fork tubes KYB's the 90 was the only red to have them outter tubes anodized red plus the wrap around guards. Plus the '90 model got a new right rad shroud that had two air ducts in the design. The 91 - 92 had the 43mm forks and the delta box swing arms with different linkages that hung way down under the frame. The bike in the pic definetly looks more like the 89.

If you will get the vin number off the neck tube i can give you an exact answer. Well all i really need is the tenth digit from the front.

well, I will tell you one thing, there is no possible way that this is even near a 1998. I have a 1998 yz125 and I think yours is a 89.
