Default Any Help?! ASAP Please!

G"day guys.

I am in a bit of trouble concerning my YZ.

I put it back together last night after top-end rebuild and adding some parts. (bars, clamps, ignition)

This morning I went out and it started 2nd kick no worries. I rode it around for about 10 mins before killing it and putting it in the shed to cool down. I came back out aout 45 mins later to have a look at spark plug and adjust air-screw.

I wanted to check my spark plug as I have just moved the clip up one. So it should run slightly leaner. I am pretty sure that by leaning it out a bit the bike runs cleaner and stronger than ever before. No more oil coming out of silencer at all, at this stage. And the sparkplug is usually really oiled up. This time it's just slightly wet but not oily like it used to be!

So now I adjusted my air-screw back to manual's specs. (1.5 turns out) I thought I would give this a go and change it after testing it again.

Well, it won't start now!

Adjusting the air-screw couldn't make that much of a difference to starting it could it? The only thing that made me consider adjusting the air-screw was that it wasn't idling well. It kept wanting to die out on me.

So does anyone have any pointers or things I could try. The air filter is clean. I have tried numerous spark plugs and they all spark while hooked up to my bike. ( I thought wiring or electrics might have been bumped) Fuel is getting into the carby. THe tank hose is not clogged.

The only thing that I haven't checked is float. That was the first thing I went to do but the 3 bolts are star-screwdriver ones, and they have been done up very tight. I have tried and so has my dad and we can't get them out. I am worried about cross-threading the heads so I have left them alone.

Could the float change starting manners like my bike shows?
I have tried run-starting the bike to no avail. If I kick it or try and run-start it, then check the plug, it's kinda oily.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

If worst comes to worst I will probably take the carb into show to get them to undo bolts and reset float.

Thanks for your help!!!

Have you tried setting the airscrew back to where it was when it was running?

Yep, I changed it straight back when it wouldn't start as I thought that I adjusted too much, but it mustn't be the case.

I am gonna go back out and work on it again.

Thanks for your reply!

Hey..before you do..put in a new plug and pull the airfilter and give it a little shot of ether(starting fluid) if you have some. If it won't attempt to start on that, something is going on with your ignition. Didn't you just change it out to something else?

Ok, I have made some progress.

It starts, but runs poorly down low.
By this I mean that it wants to bog down and die unless you a high in the rev range. Unless my revs are up it will just bog down when the throttle is opened up. It bogs badly in the first 1/3 of the throttle. This means that air screw and pilot will come into play.

The thing that has me puzzled is that it ran perfectly this morning. Nice and crisp and plenty of power. No bogging like now.

I think I will just muck around with the air-screw but can't see how it could effect it this much. .

Btw, yes I put a different ignition on. It worked fine this morning.

Yep got it thanks Kenny. Sent you one back.

She's all good now!

The spark plug gap got built up with carbon. This must have happened because of using a batch of 16:1 premix!
