Default Another build

Well I've decided to build another YZ 250? I've now accumulated 90 hrs on my 2005 YZ 250 with a goal of 120 hrs per year. At this rate I need to bring my bike back to the shop and do top end and suspension maintenance. The down time with my job is about two to three weeks each time. So I decided I would run two bikes, one in the shop getting groomed and the other at the track. I will alternate them and in doing so can keep them in top shape. At the moment I'm trying to stretch another 15 hrs out of my bike before I bring it back to the shop again. So with the parts from the last build and new parts I'm building a 2008 YZ 250. Here's what I have so far: 2002 engine cases, 2007 swing arm, plus front and rear brakes.

I sure will. I spend about 15-30 minutes a day looking for parts on ebay, then watch the bids. The bike is the easy part to put together. I hope to have this build done in 5 months, being I'm starting from scratch.

I'm thinking of using the Hurricane Plastics again, but could change my mind if I see something I like.

Forget how does he find the time! How the heck to you talk the wife into letting you put your parts out on the table so you can stay closer to the beer in the frig, and keep an eye on your computer?

Ya, that one made me chuckle. She has a stricked policy of allowing the parts in the house for one day then they must go to the shop. I guess after 14 years of marriage she's willing to tolerate a few things.

Well I thought I'd update the progress so far. Received the engine side case today along bag of nuts and bolts from another teardown. Bought a new wisco crank kit with gaskets, bearings and gasket all from ebay NOS that someone bought but never used. Got a tank and front brake assembly from a 2006 YZ 125. Bid and won a transmission gear set plus stator, flywheel, cdi, wiring hearness, frame 2006, another transmission set (incase the first set is bad) and leftover bolts from 2006 teardown. These will arrive next week. Still looking for 2008 suspension and rims. Here are some pictures of the engine so far.

Nice... that's gotta be a very cool advantage -- building it with all the types of parts you want.

Was away on holidays for a week, so thought I'd update you guys on the progress. While I was gone the frame, subframe, transmission, carb, cdi, stator and flywheel arrived. Have missed out on a lot of bids as they have gone above my 30% ceiling. All in all the frame and parts are in good shape. I'll spend a few hours cleaning all the parts and checking for wear before installing in the engine. So far so good, now if I could only find the suspension? Looks like this will be the parts to wait on. Have seen a 2008 YZF suspension, but after doing some research decided against it as ther are too many different part numbers, besides I want this to handle like a YZ250, not some strange beast? Anyway here are some shots. Oh ya I've been officially worned to get those parts out of the house
