You can run your fuel/oil ratio at 50:1, but if normally run more like 32:1 I would just stick with that. It will protect your engine better.

I ran my YZ250 at 50:1 but I ran my YZ125 at 40:1 and it worked out very well.

I'm far from a 2 stroker. In fact the only pre-mix I deal with is the 40:1 I mix for the weed eater and the hedge trimmer. But if what I read is correct, different oils will require different ratios. Before I went strictly with the label, I'd read the owner's manual for a little info. Let us know what you do and how it works out.

I have been running the bel-ray mix that suggest 50:1 on the label. I've always mixed it 32:1 and its worked out well, and has been very clean when rebuilding the top end

I'm an Amsoil dealer.

That being said, I can never in good faith recommend that my customers follow Amsoil's recommended mixing ratios.

I would never put less than 40:1 in ANY Two-Cycle engine. It just makes no sense. More oil = better ring seal = more compression = more power. Add to that more available lubrication will let parts last longer, and you get a win/win situation.

There is a test you can do to see if you are mixing enough oil into your fuel for your particular situation. Make sure you are running on a fresh top end. Then mix up a gallon of fuel/oil. Then go run the bike (check/correct your jetting as needed). When the fuel is gone, pull the top end. Take a straw or chop-stick and stick it between the crank wheels until it touches the bottom of the crankcase. When you pull it out, there should be 1/8 to 1/4 inch of residual oil on it. If there is more than 1/4 inch you are using too much oil in your fuel. If there is less than 1/8 inch you are not using enough oil in your fuel. Make an adjustment to the ratio based on these findings and repeat until you get between the 1/8 and 1/4 inch range. When you get there, you have found the ratio that works best for your riding style and engine.

Remember that a faster/harder rider will need more oil than a slower/easier rider.

I knew I liked 814 for a reason!! The rule of thumb, or oil depth I have been living by for several decades is that I like to have enough oil to touch the bottom of the crank flywheels. It is easy to check and amounts to the depth that 814 suggests in most cases. Some (including me) call it residual oil. Most modern two strokes will allow you to see the crank wheels when you take the reed cage off. Let the bike sit overnight after a ride, and then take a look into the intake cavity with a penlight. Rotate the crank,,if you don't see any oil on it, in my opinion you don't have enough.

The trade seems to be less oil,,you get a little better engine response (this pretty much goes away by 28-32:1 mixes). More oil, more overall hp. Jetting plays a big part in this of course. Some of you know I run 20-1 in just about everything. I have for the most part for 35 years. If you don't do a lot of long straights, and if you use something like the Amsoil, you probably don't need that.
