I am contemplating purchasing some after market reed petals after hearing very enticing opinions on them. I have a few questions. 1. Do you need Reed Cage for V-Force reed petals? I know I can use the Boyesen petals with stock cages? 2. Which do you recommend? I was leaning towards V-Force reeds but the Boyesen reeds are cheaper. --> Boyesen Pro Series Reeds..........$39.99 --> V-Force Delta 2 Reeds................$49.95 This part is going to sound stupid, but I already have Carbon Fibre reeds, but have ridden my friend's stock 1999 YZ125 and can't tell the difference between mine and his bike powerwise. So if anyone can help me decide or give me some insight and opinions then fire away! Thanks for your help!

Yes, you'll need to already have a V-Force cage in order to use their reeds. V-Force reeds won't bolt up to your stock reed cage. Quote:
You can eliminate the V-Force reeds from your choices, but that's okay because Boyesen makes three different flavors of reeds that will fit your stock cage. They come in Super Stock reeds, Power reeds and Pro Series reeds. The difference being that the Super Stock are usually single stage reeds offered in carbon fiber or fiber glass. The Power reeds are dual stage fiber glass and the Pro Series are dual stage fiber glass and carbon fiber. I like the dual stage Power reeds myself, they seem to help bottom end slightly and the fiber glass construction is a little more bullet proof then the carbon fiber alternatives. Quote:
It's really going to come down to the actual construction of the reeds themselves. If both are a single stage design and are the same thickness, or create the same amount of tension, then any difference would be negligable. If you were to use stiffer reeds then hi RPM power would probably be slightly better and vise-versa. A dual stage design kind of combines the best of both worlds. Materials and reed petal design/construction on most late model bikes is pretty good, so there won't be any huge gains when looking at reed petal replacements. Most benefits will come from a redesigned cage (V-Force or Boyesen Rad Valve) where they are better able to optimize the intake path, size and velocity and reed tip and surface area. For replacement reeds I would look more closely at quality of materials for durability and minor improvements on design over stock (dual stage vs. single stage). Good luck choosing. |

LOL Sorry we posted at same time!! Thanks for that Andrew!! Really appreciate it. Now, I think I will try and work towards the whole reed cage if I replace my reeds. I have heard remarkable impacts on reponse and crispness from Zack (psyklone) about the V-Force cage and reeds. Thanks for that! Last edited by Aus_Rider_22; 09-30-2004 at 07:17 AM.

I put Boyesen Pro Series in my bike this year and I have to say I am dissapointed. It seems to have gained a bit of power in the upper micrange/top end and LOST power in the low end. I was really hoping to gain some kind of low end. Of course I'm sure results will very depending on the particular engine, but I won't by them again for my bike.

No I didn't have to rejet, but some people said that they had too. I previously rejeted my bike to run perfect with the stock reeds and that jetting worked perfect with the delta reeds.
