98 YZ125, questions (half new to mx). Needs 1k to run, rusted. Hey guys,
I posted here a while back about buying my first bike. Well, I ended up getting it, a 91 KDX 200. I kind of like it, the power band seems really mild, plenty of power for me, starts up fairly easy if I rock it back and forth, etc. I bought it for $850, cash. I don't get to ride much, but hopefully I'll be able to in the near future.
I was speakin to my friend and he told me he has a 98 YZ125 that's been sitting around. It actually belongs to somebody else. I'm not quite sure about the details, but he said they almost were able to buy it for $400. He did say that it's rusted all over though. Needs about 1k into it to run.
Rust doesn't sound good to me, but it's usually fixable if it's not too bad right? I'm thinkin of trading bikes with him and seeing if he'll give me some cash for the YZ. Then slowly put some money into it, and hopefully by summer I'll have a fairly new bike to ride.
I want to sell/trade the KDX because I think it's too heavy for me. I've found that I have a really hard problem with picking her up or pushing her around.. I can pick up my friend's 03 YZ125 to swing the rear around, but I can barely budge the KDX. I'd also like to go with inverted forks up front. I really don't know much about suspension, but I come from a mountain biking background, and over the years, I bet suspension gets alot of changes.
What do you guys think?
Oh, and I am a light guy. I'm only 150 pounds, give or take, and add some more with gear I suppose. I know a YZ125 is more of a race bike instead of a trail bike, and the power band will probably kick alot more. I'm still getting used to the clutch, not doing too well on hill starts.
